Buckeye, named for the home state of one of the early settlers, is proud to be one of the most rural communities in the Metro Phoenix area. The 12,500 residents of Buckeye take delight in the hometown charm that Buckeye has developed in the time since it was founded.

The community of Buckeye was actually founded in 1888. The first settlers came to Arizona en route Ohio, hence being named after the state they arrived from. The town settlers tried to promote family values, and the importance of the family unit when the town was first beginning, something that is still promoted highly in this area.

Buckeye appeals to the strong sense of family by offering many activities for the children located in the area. Children are able to become involved in Pop football, soccer, little league, the Future Farmers of America, and 4-H Clubs. Many of the area children will leave Buckeye to attend college and will end up coming home to start their own family there.

The history of Buckeye is a tumultuous one. The community has managed to survive through floods, droughts, and natural disasters. Despite the efforts of these storms, to destroy the beautiful land that Buckeye has to offer, the residents have been able to transform rocky desert soil into lush green land that rolls across the Western Valley.

Agricultural activity has always been the top priority economically in Buckeye. The town is actually well known as being the world's largest producer of Pima cotton. Newcomers will find a more progressive economy that is located in Maricopa's Westside enterprise zone. Tax credits are available for businesses looking to relocate to this particular area.
